Frankly speaking friends; whenever i am not in a mood or don't have much enough time for cooking, i go for this recipe. Pink Lentils are meant to be very rich in Protein, Iron, fiber and Calcium. Lentils which is best for everyday cooking. What i do to enhance the flavor add butter and seasoning sometimes oats too. I love oats, oats are very healthy + nutritious. If i talk about oats health benefits there are many, it lowers cholesterol level and blood pressure, help to increase insulin sensitivity, a complete fiber meal plus stabilizes your appetite control hormones.I do try to take oats 2 or 3 times in a week. If i feel like i am getting over weight, i just stick my diet chart to fruits and oats. The recipe i am going to share you can have with rice, chapati or tortilla or just eat soup (what i do) lolz..
Try to get good quality oats, i used Quaker one with my lentils.
Here's the recipe:
- 1 cup of Masoor Dal/ Pink Lentils soaked in water for about half an hour
- 4 tbsp of oats
- 1 medium sized onions cut in julienne
- 1 chopped tomato
- 1 cup of chicken stock
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp Red Pepper
- 1 cup of Water
- 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder
- 1 1/2 cup of Water
Steps to follow
Just put every ingredient and set it to cook for about half an hour on a slow flame.
Ready to dish out;
To me Lentil / Dal is incomplete without butter 'tarka'
It's optional; For tarka you need;
1 small chopped onion, 1 tsp of chopped garlic and ginger paste, 2 to 3 green chili, 2 to 3 raw red pepper, 1 tsp cumin Seeds,1 tbsp of butter, 2 tbsp of oil
Cook everything on a pan till onion changes its color to golden;
Pour that tarka over your lentils in a bowl. It just look awesome. Love the colours!
